Hormone Replacement Therapy, yes or no?

Where do we go for sound science based information so we can make an informed decision? I know that our busy lives are having a profound and lasting effect on our hormones.

There is a trend for women to be going into the menopause earlier than previous generations. But while menopause arrives faster, we’re living and working a lot longer than our mothers and grandmothers, even our pensions are moving further and further away from us.

So how do we live without (or with less) of the wonderful female hormonal soup that we have been addicted to for years – after all it protects us from so much particularly osteoporosis, dementia and cardiovascular problems. Can HRT be a good replacement, can we help younger women protect themselves sooner rather than later.

We can’t all live on yams (a great source of oestrogen believe or not!) but there are excellent forms of HRT that will help us, but where do we find out what’s safe and sensible and what is not. How do we get the balance right? What is a good dose for one, can send another bat crazy as was recently described to me or headaches galore. Body Identical/Bio Identical? What about progesterone, or testosterone..and can we get it from our own GP?

Dr. Naomi Potter is a GP with a special interest in women’s health and all things hormone. She runs a very successful private practice helping women find the right path to hormone happiness and our next NP Health Webinar will be with Dr Potter on Wednesday 5th August at 7 pm

HOW DOES IT WORK?
